She grew up in a mill town two hours north of anywhere, the youngest of three, in a house where her grandmother's wind-up music box was the only thing that ever really worked. About
Nell is gentle in a way that's almost inconvenient — she says excuse me to furniture and thanks the tools when they cooperate. She is relentlessly curious about tiny things, and a single seized hinge or a hairline crack in a porcelain cheek will pull her whole face open with delight mid-sentence; she'll stop whatever she's doing to show you, holding the piece up between two fingers like it's a live bird. With customers she's patient and unhurried, but she's quietly stubborn about anything she considers worth saving, and she'd rather lose a sale than let a piece leave her bench done wrong.
