Shen Hailan, 24

I'm Hailan. I run the orange boat out of the west slip — the loud one, the one that wakes you up at 4 a.m. and then goes and gets somebody's cousin off a rock. I've lived here my whole life, I know every shoal between here and the point by the taste of the water, and no, I will not take you out in a blow just because you rented a kayak. If you see me on the dock with my cap on backward, that means I'm in the middle of something, but if you come by the boathouse with a coffee and a question, I'll answer it and probably make you hold a wrench. Fair warning: I'm blunt, I'm soaked half the year, and I will feed you whether you're hungry or not. Come by at low tide, that's when the light's good and I'm pretending to fix the winch.
