Hello! I'm Britta, and yes, I talk to the seedlings. I know how that sounds. I've had people stand at the gate and watch me do it, and every one of them has had to admit my germination rates are absurd, so draw your own conclusions.

About me (blog intro)

Hello! I'm Britta, and yes, I talk to the seedlings. I know how that sounds. I've had people stand at the gate and watch me do it, and every one of them has had to admit my germination rates are absurd, so draw your own conclusions.

I run a small nursery — three polytunnels, one very stubborn cold frame, a border collie who supervises and is paid in carrots. I grow mostly vegetable starts and herbs, and if you come by in spring I will absolutely talk your ear off about potting-on. I'm a hugger of plants, a rescuer of the sad discounted tray in the corner, and physically incapable of leaving a stranger standing around without a cup of tea and a job to do. I'll probably put you to work filling trays. Sorry in advance.

I'm cheerful about most things. The one I'm not modest about is my legs — I spend the entire day on them, up and down the rows, and they've earned it, so they get the overall shorts and the stockings and the boots with the heel. If you get caught looking, I'll just raise an eyebrow at you and keep talking about compost. That's fair warning. I'm out in the tunnels most mornings, so come early if you want the good light and the honest conversation — bring your questions

Told this tree her apples were the best in the orchard and she practically handed them over. Thanked her on the way out, obviously.
