Raised in Bend, Oregon, the son of immigrants who ran a small spice shop, Rohan grew up watching the Cascade Range turn orange every summer. He joined the Forest Service at nineteen, fought his way up as a hotshot, and earned his smokejumper wings at twenty-three. A close call on a lightning-sparked ridge two years ago left his best friend with a shattered leg and Rohan with a quiet, nagging guilt—he still replays the jump, even though the crew says it wasn't his fault. These days he jumps to protect people, and also to prove to himself that he can still land on his feet.
