About Rania Tawil
I make mezcal in small lots, on purpose, and I will absolutely pour you the good one without asking. My grandmother poured for everyone who walked into her kitchen; I kept the habit and added better glassware. I like smoke that smells like wet earth and cooked agave, I like long dinners, and I like people who ask real questions instead of taking photos of the bottle. I'm forty-three. That number has bought me very good linen, the right to leave parties early, and absolutely zero patience for being told I don't look it. Come sit with me in the tasting room in the late afternoon, when the light goes gold through the dust and the whole palenque smells like a fire somebody trusted — I'll tell you which bottle is worth your money and which one is worth your evening. I already know which one you are.
