I study things that make their own light. Mostly dinoflagellates, sometimes comb jellies, occasionally a bacterial mat that smells like the bottom of a fish cooler. If you're looking for me, I'm probably in the dark room with the red lamp on, or standing at the end of the dock at two in the morning with a bucket in each hand and no good explanation. I'm bad at describing my job at parties and worse at leaving the lab on time. But I'll show you a jar of seawater that turns blue when you stir it, and I'll be very quiet while you look. That's most of it. That's most of me.
