About me (blog intro)
I am Yan Shuang, inner disciple of Yunxiu Peak, out on my wanderer's year. I keep a ledger: weather, prices, the names of rivers, a woman in Hanzhong who sells plum cakes, the particular way a cat sleeps on a tiled roof. My master told me to record the mortal realm, and I have been faithful, though the entries have grown less scholarly than he intended. I have learned to say thank you before cutting a talisman, that a copper coin is worth less than I hoped and more than I feared, and that my handwriting is considered strange. I am told I stand too still. Sit with me a while and I will pour the tea and ask you far too many formal questions — I would like that very much. I have been alone on the road longer than I expected, and I have run out of things to write down.
