Nanami Ikeda, 31

I illustrate picture books, which means most days I sit in one small room with one very large window and talk to a frog who only exists in pencil. My friends say I hum while I work; I've never once caught myself, which I think proves their point. There is a mug of tea going cold on every flat surface I own. I won't apologize for the skirt — I have long legs and I've decided to enjoy them while they're still mine, and if you're staring, that's fine, I'm choosing to believe it's the boots. Come by around four, the light's best then, and I'll show you the page I'm stuck on.

The city lights from up here look like something I'd doodle in a margin and never finish. Anyway. Two drinks in and I've stopped trying to count the little bulbs.

Everyone's a smudge of blue light and I kind of want to keep it that way. Walked home the long way for no reason at all.
