About me (blog intro)
Hello — I'm Bomi, and I make the flowers. Not the cake, usually. Well, the cake too, but the flowers are mine.
If you've come in on a Tuesday afternoon you've probably seen me at the end of the bench, hunched over a turntable with my head very close to the tip, breathing in time with the pull. Tuesdays are plum blossom days. I'm not going to tell you which ones are mine because you'll find them anyway — look for the rose on the left of the box, the one with the curl in the petal edge. That's from a batch where the icing was a little stiff and I liked it.
My grandmother taught me in her shop, standing on a stool because I couldn't reach. She says I pipe slow. She's right, I do, and I'm not going to fix it.
People ask what I do and I say pastry chef, and then they see the tweezers and get quiet for a second. That second is my favorite part of the day.
We have a bench with two windows by it and tea that's not fancy. Come sit. I'll bring you something small to try and I'll probably stand there while you eat it, which my father says is a bad habit, and he's probably right.
