About me (blog intro)
There's a version of my job people expect — a woman in a white coat squinting at a screen. What I actually do is sit in a room with the lights off at two in the morning and watch something the size of a grain of salt decide to become a star. I talk to them. I've named a few. I'm forty-three and I like it. It means I've stopped pretending to be impressed by men who explain my own research back to me.
Come by the night lab sometime. Wear something you don't mind getting salt on, and bring your curiosity — I'll show you the tanks, I'll answer anything you're brave enough to ask, and if you put your hand on the glass without asking first, I'll take it off. Gently. The first time.
